3 Innovative Treatments to Restore Thinning Hair

3 Innovative Treatments to Restore Thinning Hair

Although most people think of thinning hair as a problem that mostly affects men, both men and women tend to experience hair loss as they age. Both sexes can lose their hair due to medical conditions, too. Happily, we offer some innovative treatments that can help.

At the Osteopathic Center for Healing, Neil Spiegel, DO, and Jennifer Gularson, PA-C, know that good health involves more than physical well-being. In order to engage in the world fully, you also need to be confident and comfortable with yourself, and part of that means being happy with your appearance.

If you’re constantly worried about thinning hair, it’s difficult to feel great about how you look.

In this post, we describe three innovative treatments that we offer at the Osteopathic Center for Healing that can help restore your hair. The one that’s most likely to work for you depends on a host of individual factors.

We recommend speaking with one of our providers to get personalized recommendations.

Microneedling

Although microneedling is often associated with skin care, it can also be a way to stimulate hair growth. It may even help in cases of alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune problem that leads to patchy hair loss.

Microneedling is a process that involves inflicting thousands of microscopic wounds in order to stimulate your body’s natural healing abilities. When it’s used as an anti-aging treatment, it helps your body produce more collagen. When it’s used to help restore thinning hair, it can help release growth factors which stimulate your hair follicles.

The process of microneedling also opens channels that can be used to deliver Minoxidil, serums, or platelet rich plasma more directly. This increases the impact of both types of treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP therapy has been used in various medical applications for many years. It has recently become a popular anti-aging therapy, as well. Here’s how it works:

We draw a small amount of your blood, then process it in a centrifuge, which separates the various components. The plasma, or liquid part of your blood, contains platelets, growth factors, and proteins. We injected this PRP precisely where you need it.

The concentrated plasma helps your body regenerate tissues and speeds up the healing process. When applied to your scalp, it can be an effective treatment for hair loss. We can use it alone or in conjunction with other therapies such as microneedling.

Since PRP uses your own blood, it’s very unlikely that you’ll have any kind of reaction. It’s generally considered a safe therapy, and it harnesses your body’s own powers.

Regenerative therapies

Regenerative medicine is a relatively new field of study that seeks ways to use your body’s natural healing abilities to the best advantage for your overall health.

For example, if you cut your finger, your body immediately launches into action to repair the damage. Your blood clots so the bleeding stops, inflammation prevents infection, and your body begins to produce new skin cells to repair the cut.

With regenerative therapies, we attempt to trigger that cascade of healing in a targeted way. We can use it to help with tendon injuries, degenerative conditions such as arthritis, and, yes, to stimulate new hair growth.

We work to make sure you get the individual attention you need. We don’t recommend cookie-cutter treatments for any issue, including thinning hair.
